Jules Verne was one of the pioneers of science fiction. He wrote over 50 novels as part of the "Voyages Extraordinaires" series published by Hetzel between 1857 and 1905, and has been noted for giving startlingly accurate descriptions of modern times. Air and space travel, submarines, air conditioning, television and the internet are just some of the inventions he described in his books.
