Bead Loom
by Mary Dennin
Tension looms are one of the most common tools for creating beadwork. This type of loom was first used by Native Americans to create quillwork pieces. With the introduction of glass beads, looms were converted to create beautiful beaded items.
This handmade miniature wood loom features tiny white and iris charlotte-cut beads. The beads are painstakingly woven onto the loom, and an exquisitely fine needle is left in place. The colors are typical of Northern Plains tribes, such as Sioux, Arapaho, Crow, Nez Perce, Cheyenne and Blackfoot.
Loom measures just over 2" (5.3cm) long.
