The color of adobe
homes varies widely across New Mexico. I've noticed that around Albuquerque and to the west, the color tends to be a very light tan. In the Santa Fe area they seem to prefer a darker tan. As you progress north, the color of homes deepens until they reach a dark brown color. By the time you reach Taos, the color lightens again to a pale reddish tan.

I don't know if this color variation is due to the natural clay colors of different areas or simply to personal preference, but it is definitely regional. Even modern "adobe style" homes are stuccoed with colors that match the traditional materials of their area.

The popular blue door varies by region as well. In Albuquerque people tend towards a lighter, brighter turquiose color, while to the north the blue is nearly cobalt. Personally I find the combination of deep brown adobe with cornflower blue trim stunning.
