Bead Loom with Antique Beads
Tension looms are one of the most common tools for creating beadwork. This type of loom was first used by Native Americans to create quillwork pieces. With the introduction of glass beads, looms were converted to create beautiful beaded items.
This handmade miniature wood loom by artist Mary Dennin features miniscule antique Italian beads, over 100 years old. The beads are painstakingly woven onto the loom. The colors are typical of Northern Plains tribes, particularly Cheyenne (the color is often referred to as Cheyenne Pink.)
Loom measures just over 2" (5.3cm) long. The 5-strand beadwork is a mere 3/16" (4mm) across. An extraordinary museum-quality piece for your miniature collection.
